Many times we stylists have clients that come in wanting a new style. Some times those clients know precisely what they are looking for. Other times, they are not so sure. The latter type of client may have seen a good style on someone and thought it would look good on them, or they just have grown tired of their same old style.
Regardless of why, here are some tips that will help you out when you are coming in for a brand new style.
1. Bring pictures. It doesn't matter who the pictures are of. If they are hairstyles you like, they will help bridge the communication gap between you and your stylist. Even better if the face shape of the person in the picture matches yours.
2. Know your limits. If you do not want any length removed, make sure you state that at the onset of your consultation. Length is often critical to a new hair style.
3. Make sure the hair style you want works with your styling habits. If the pictures you are looking at are of a hair style that requires a lot of effort, and you do not like to put in that effort - look to another style.
4. Keywords. Keywords are important. Volume, layers, weight, framing are all words stylists are familiar with. That doesn't mean you have to know them. You can use your own descriptive words to illustrate the style you are searching for.
5. Bring a model. If you have a friend (or family member) whose hair you must have, bring them in. Just make sure they have their hair styled in the way you like.
Getting a new hair style doesn't have to be an event to fear. In fact, it's going to be a new you, so prepare to enjoy the process and the outcome.
